At 1:21 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, Great Bend Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 1201 Roosevelt St. First arriving crews reported heavy smoke coming from the residence. Crews made entry into the residence to search for the fire. At the same time, other crew members made entry and began searching the residence for possible victims.

The fire was located, knocked down, and extinguished. No victims were located. It was later determined that no one was currently living in the residence.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Responding agencies include Great Bend Police Department, Wheatland Electric, Kansas Gas, and the City of Great Bend Water Department.
