GBPD K-9 Lazar and his handler Officer Amber Allen found numerous prescription pills, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia at 9:26 p.m. on Thursday during a traffic stop where the K-9 unit was called in to search a vehicle. Two people were arrested at the scene, Police Chief David Bailey said.

According to reports, a Great Bend Police officer stopped a 1997 Ford Escort in the 1600 block of Morton St. for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop, the Great Bend Police Department K-9 Lazar was deployed to do an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Upon completion of the sniff, it was determined a search of the vehicle would be completed.

The driver, Garrett Buckbee, 22, of Ellinwood and passenger Tanner Guyton, 19, of Great Bend were both arrested for possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Buckbee was also charged with failure to signal and no insurance. This case is still under investigation. Buckbee and Guyton remained in custody as of Friday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bonds.

Anyone with information regarding this case or any other criminal matter is asked to contact the Great Bend Police Department, 620-793-4120 or Crime Stoppers, 620-792-1300.
