In April, United Way of Central Kansas announced a fund of $5,000 for its new Impact Grants. This initiative offers non-profits the opportunity to apply for funding of up to $1,000 per year for a specific program or project in Barton or Pawnee County.

UWCK announced Thursday that funding was awarded to Dropping 22 Inc. and ElderCare Inc., both of Great Bend. Both will receive $500.

“We are thrilled to partner with Dropping 22, Inc in their mission to support the well-being of our local emergency service workers,” said Charell Owings, executive director of UWCK.

They will utilize the grant to support their upcoming Resilience and Wellness Training for Emergency Service Workers. This is a comprehensive program designed to address the unique challenges faced by these dedicated individuals.

Dropping 22 is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans, first responders, the military community and their families reduce their risk of suicide and improve their mental health so they can overcome trauma, depression, anxiety and other stressors.

The training is scheduled for Aug. 30. Contact Dropping 22 at 620-786-0687 for more information.

“We have partnered with ElderCare and Meals on Wheels for many years and are committed to helping them sustain the services they provide for some of our most vulnerable citizens,” Owings said. “Not only does this program provide a healthy meal but it is also a wellness check and a chance for socialization.”

ElderCare will use its funding to help cover the cost of 1,200 meal trays for Barton County Meals on Wheels. These trays are required for meal deliveries to ensure that food is kept at a temperature that keeps the clients safe.

Eldercare is dedicated to helping persons maintain an optimum quality of life by offering services which allow them to remain in their homes and community with safety and dignity.
