Winter concerts feature GBHS orchestra, bands on Monday

An evening filled with holiday music is on tap beginning at 7 p.m. Monday at the Great Bend High School. Middle school and high school bands will be joined by the orchestras in presenting their combined winter concert in two different locations.

The orchestra will kick of the evening at 7 p.m. in the newly refurbished auditorium. Under the direction of Shelby Huddleston, seventh-grade orchestra will play "Holiday Celebrations," "Classical Sinfonia" and "Carol of the Bells." The eighth-grade selections include "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer," "Greensleeves" and "Raspberry Ramble." The high school orchestra will perform "O Holy Night," "Classical Reflections" and "Wizards in Winter."

Following the orchestra at 8 p.m., the GBHS bands will present their concert in the high school gym. The jazz band will begin with "Now Rock," "Ye Rested Gentleman" followed by "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "The Christmas Song" and "Rock the Halls." The junior varsity band will play "Jingle Bell Rock," "A Still Silent Night" and selections from the Nutcracker. The varsity band will present "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Pachelbel’s Canon," "A Host Christmas" and "Fantasia on the Dargason." The two bands will unite for "Patriotic Spectacular" and "Season’s Greetings." The bands are directed by Mark DeWald and assisted by Kurtis Koch and Huddleston.

The concerts are free to the public.
