Woman charged with attempted murder

A 34-year-old woman is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly stabbing a man during an incident Sunday evening, according to the Great Bend Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Cedar Park Place at approximately 7:40 p.m. June 28 in reference to a reported stabbing, police said. Upon arrival, officers contacted a man and a woman inside one of the apartments.

The investigation determined that Mercedes Mater, 34, had stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife, according to police.

Mater was taken into custody and transported to the Barton County Jail. She was booked on charges of attempted murder, battery of a law enforcement officer, battery of a corrections officer, and interference with a law enforcement officer.

The victim was transported by Great Bend EMS to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
