The City of Great Bend’s 2022 street chip and seal project is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 7, circumstances allowing, Assistant City Engineer Sreehitha Kadiyala announced Friday. Once started the project is expected to take three days.

The areas to be affected by this are: Select streets north of 24th between Williams and Washington; the 17th Street Terrace area; south of Broadway Avenue between McKinley and Eisenhower, with the addition of the 1000 block of Walnut Street; and the 800 to 1000 blocks of MacArthur Road.

“Again, this will be select streets that have been assessed to benefit the most from this style of maintenance,” Kadiyala said. In addition to the chip seal, the work involves application of a fog seal, a light application of a diluted slow-setting asphalt emulsion (a thin liquid oil).

She advises motorists to be attentive as crews work in these areas, and they will make every effort to minimize the impact to traffic. “We thank you for your patience.”
