The board of education for Great Bend Public Schools on Tuesday approved the purchase of 950 Yondr-brand bags that will be issued to Great Bend High School students this fall. Students will place their cellphones and other personal electronic devices in the bags and will not be able to open them during the school day.

This purchase was made to comply with the Kansas House Bill 2299 enacted in March. The Yondr package includes bags, unlocking bases and other supplies and support services. The cost was $29,335 but Assistant Superintendent John Popp said the district could receive a discount by approving the purchase before July 1. The discounted price was $28,515.
