Barton County Sheriff

Great Bend Police Department requested Barton County Sheriff’s Office check the welfare of a juvenile male in rural Great Bend in reference to a fight at the high school Friday morning. Officers were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence and did not file a case.

A man seen sitting on a bridge Friday on K-96, north of Great Bend, was checked. He was walking to Hays. A Kansas Highway Patrol officer drove the man to Rush County.

Friday’s head-on collision (see the March 13 Great Bend Tribune, page 14A) was reported at 9:23 p.m. in the 800 block of K-156, about 14 miles northeast of Great Bend. Helicopters from both Eagle Med and Life Team responded. (A third person was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital and was later flown via air ambulance to Wichita.) Claflin and Ellinwood Ambulances responded, along with the Claflin Fire Department and Kansas Highway Patrol and four BCSO officers.

A prisoner at the Barton County Jail was placed in the restraint chair at 5:56 p.m. Saturday after urinating on the cell door and floor.

A burglary at 323 Marla St. in Great Bend was reported Saturday. Fishing equipment was stolen.

A car hit a deer on K-96, east of Albert, Saturday around 9 p.m.

A car was in a rollover accident three miles south of U.S. 56 on Radium Road at 3:37 a.m. Sunday, but no one was injured. Kansas Highway Patrol responded.

Outside Agency Assist: A vehicle from a gas skip in Lyons was stopped by the Ellinwood Police Department at 4:30 p.m. Sunday and the driver was sent back to pay for $26.36 worth of gas.

 

Great Bend Police

Someone entered a vehicle at 821 Stone St. and stole items, it was reported Friday.

A tire was slashed on a car at 2005 Heizer St., it was reported Friday.

Two air conditioners from stolen from 900 MacArthur Road, it was reported Friday. Loss was $4,700.

A known person allegedly stole tools from Walmart, it was reported Friday. Loss was $4.

A $54.72 gas skip at 1906 Main was reported at 7:27 p.m. Friday.

Someone entered a vehicle at 900 Williams St. and took items, it was reported Friday night.

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked car at 809 Coolidge St., it was reported Saturday.

A stereo was stolen from a truck at 1076 Warner Road, it was reported Sunday.

A vehicle driven by Janie Hamby was traveling north on Maple St. at 6:46 p.m. Sunday and struck a vehicle driven by Fransico Fabella that was eastbound on Fourth St. Hamby was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

A gas skip involving a white and brown Bronco at 3907 Broadway was reported at 7:33 p.m. Sunday.

Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made nine ambulance runs Friday, one Saturday and nine Sunday.

At 3:31 p.m. Friday firefighters responded to the drag strip, 9951 B-29 Way, where someone using a cutting torch accidentally started a small grass fire.
