Great Bend Fire/EMS
On Tuesday, Dec. 23, firefighters responded to the Dillon’s store, 1811 Main, for a fire in a cooler. Ballast in a pop cooler caught on fire but the fire was out before they arrived. Damage was contained to the cooler.
At 2:24 p.m. Wednesday, units responded to 2600 Jackson St. for an automatic alarm. There was no fire; cooking in the kitchen had triggered the smoke alarm.
They made nine ambulance runs Tuesday, three Wednesday, zero on Christmas Day, five Friday, two Saturday and four Sunday.

Great Bend Police
A sex offense was reported at 10:28 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 25.
A burglary was reported Saturday at 1503 Harrison St. Someone broke into the garage and stole 10 guns.
At 2:54 a.m. Sunday, an officer made a traffic stop in the 800 block of Washington Ave. and arrested Consuelo R. Serna, Great Bend, on suspicion of driving under the influence, with an alleged blood alcohol content at 0.293, or more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent. She was booked into the Barton County Jail on charges of DUI, no driver’s license and illegal transportation of liquor, and was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
Dr. Richard Bureky, DPM, reported two cases Sunday of someone forging prescriptions on his forms from 3509 Forest Ave.
Forged checks were reported Tuesday, Dec. 23, at a store in Great Bend Plaza, 3511 10th St.
A known person allegedly stole alcohol products from the Kwik Shop, 3907 Broadway Ave., and was served a notice to appear (NTA) in municipal court.
Jewelry was reportedly stolen from a room at Cherry Village, 1401 Cherry Lane.
A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle at 1905 Lakin Ave.
A vehicle driven by Cody Merris struck a utility pole at 3:11 p.m. Wednesday while turning onto Sherman St. from 10th St.
A vehicle driven by Glenn Flathers was westbound in the 3200 block of 10th St. at 3:41 p.m. and struck a vehicle driven by Derec Yakel, who was stopped in traffic.
A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle at 206 Barton Dr.
At 12:17 a.m. Friday, police were advised that a known person had damaged the front door at 1916 Baker Ave.
$400 was reportedly stolen from a safe at Dawson Jewelers, 1301 Main.
A stereo was taken from a car at 1904 Baker Ave.
At 1:14 p.m. Friday, officers were notified that a large wooden box of computer equipment was lost off the back of a truck. Items were found between Washington and Garfield St. on Lakin Ave. The items belonged to AT&T and were released to an employee of AT&T.
A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.
Vehicles driven by Maleigha Preitio and Grant Keller collided at 10th and Baker at 8:21 p.m. Friday.
Two woman were stopped for alleged shoplifting at 6:13 p.m. Saturday at Walmart.
Vehicles driven by Tonya Cope and Shaun Millier collided at 8:38 p.m. Saturday at 10th and Washington.
Tires were cut on a vehicle at 808 Maple St., it was reported Sunday.
A vehicle driven by Jessica Herrera-Zuleima backed into a parked vehicle in the 1100 block of Odell St. at 10:24 a.m. Sunday.

Barton County Sheriff
A burglary call was transferred from Rice County at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. A male reported he was en route to his shop on NE 120 Ave. to investigate a break-in and that he “might end up shooting someone.” At 8:47 p.m. he advised there was no break-in, he did not need law enforcement and  “it is all right.” No case was taken.
A Chevy Express hit a deer at 8:21 p.m. Wednesday on South U.S. 281 and SE 70 Road.
A possible injury accident was reported at 9:07 p.m. Wednesday on NE 40 Road and NE 100 Ave.
A vehicle hit a deer at 6:40 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of North Washington Ave.
A burglary was reported Saturday at 651 NW 20 Ave., Hoisington. The occupant reported someone broke in and did extensive damage.
A Nissan Altima hit a deer at 7:04 p.m. Saturday, 2 miles west of the Claflin turnoff on K-156.
A car hit a deer at 8:38 p.m. at 130 Road and 90 Ave., 1 mile south of Odin.
A hit-and-run driver struck a car at 1146 NE 130 Ave., it was reported Sunday. It is believed this occurred between midnight and 10 a.m.
A barn in the 400 block of NW 10 Ave. was broken into Saturday night.
A narcotics violation was reported at 2:40 p.m. Sunday after a traffic stop on K-156 at mile post 135.
