Fourth of July fires continue early Tuesday

Great Bend Fire/EMS

In the aftermath of July 4, the Great Bend Fire Department responded to a few more calls on Tuesday. All of these were reported to be “Code 4,” meaning “everything is under control” or “the scene is safe.” Firefighters were still working on their reports after a busy 4th of July.

Small trash fires at 11th and Morphy and 19th and Polk were reported at 12:11 a.m. Tuesday. This was apparently fireworks trash burning in the street.

A small grass fire in a ditch and a telephone pole on fire were reported at 12:18 a.m. at NW K-96 and Patton Road. The fire was out when firefighters arrived.

Another small trash fire was reported at 1:22 a.m. at 2102 29th St.

A grass fire and smoldering logs were reported south of the bridge at 2711 McKinley St. at 7:30 p.m. The area was wet down.

Emergency Medical Service also made five ambulance runs Tuesday.


Great Bend Police

Fireworks complaints began after 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

A possible fight was reported at 12:13 a.m. when two men were in the street yelling at each other at Forest and Tyler.

A theft was reported at Azria Health Great Bend, 1560 K-96.

Theft by deception in reference to a “propane tank scam” was reported at noon Tuesday at Dillons No. 51, 4107 10th St. An officer conducted a follow-up to the case and discovered a second incident at Dillons No. 3, 1811 Main.

Two vehicles collided at 1:19 p.m. in the 3500 block of 10th Street. No injuries were reported.

A sex offense was reported at a residence at 3:47 p.m.; an outside agency assist was completed by the Hutchinson Police Department.

A notice to appear was served after a battery between two males was reported at 3:56 p.m. at Pathways Rescare, 3632 Robin Road.

A theft was reported at Walmart.

A K-9 unit was dispatched to a traffic stop at 11:52 p.m. at 19th St. and the U.S. 281 Bypass. A vehicle was searched after the K-9 indicated illegal drugs.


Barton County Sheriff

A K-9 unit was dispatched to 24th and Jefferson in Great Bend at 11:44 a.m. Tuesday.

Following a call at 5:33 p.m. about an alleged narcotics violation at Stone Lake, 2501 Railroad Ave., a warrant arrest was made there at 5:56 p.m.

A battery was reported at 9:25 p.m. at Walmart, 3503 10th St.
