A late Sunday night traffic stop led to the arrest of two individuals on narcotics charges by the Great Bend Police Department.
According to a GBPD release, at approximately 11:35 p.m. Sunday, a GBPD officer observed a vehicle being driven by 40-year-old Cassandra Maupin. The officer checked with Barton County Dispatch, who confirmed Maupin did not have a valid driver’s license. The officer then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 900 block of Kansas Avenue.
The department’s K-9 officer, Menta was dispatched to the scene and performed a free-air sniff of the vehicle, and indicated to the odor of illegal narcotics. A search of the vehicle was performed and suspected illegal narcotics were located. Maupin was arrested and booked for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp and no driver’s license.
A passenger in the vehicle, 31-year-old Mark Caton, was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp.
