ODIN — Joseph F. Hekele, 80, died Aug. 23, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Wilson. He was born March 14, 1922 at Odin, the son of Joseph Alois and Anna Agnes (Seus) Hekele. He married Martha Moeder, Oct. 25, 1950 at Hoisington. She died October 11, 1988. He was owner of Hekele and Son’s milk hauling business and co-owner of the former Hoisington Cheese Plant. He was a lifetime Odin resident. Joseph during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Post 2630, Odin, Hoisington Horseshoe Club, church choir member. He loved music, played many instruments and was an avid trap shooter. Survivors include three sons, Terry Hekele and companion Earlene, Great Bend; Joe Hekele Jr., and wife Tina, Odin; Mike Hekele and wife Kim, Odin; four daughters, Anne Beck and husband Allan, Claflin; Jacque Phelan and husband Dennis, Rangely, Colo.; Joan Miller and husband Brian, Claflin; Angie Miller and husband Brock, Eudora; a sister, Ruth Corbett, Ellinwood; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Greg Hekele; a daughter-in-law, Leota Hekele; five brothers, John Hekele, Martin Hekele, Frank Hekele, Arthur Hekele and Alex Hekele; and three sisters, Tillie Springer, Mary Hekele and Rose Schwartz. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, with Con-Celebrants, Father Charles Mazouch, Father Patric Riley, Father Pascal Klein and Father Daniel Sheetz. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral, Hoisington. Interment will be at Holy Family Cemetery, Odin with Military graveside rites by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
