Lorraine A. Schneweis

HOISINGTON — Lorraine A. Schneweis, 89, passed away Aug. 16, 2026, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born June 3, 1937, in La Crosse, Kan., the daughter of William O. and Clara J. (Busch) Maneth. Lorraine graduated from La Crosse High School in 1955. She worked at the Rush County Hospital and had started classes at St. Rose Nursing School in Great Bend but hated being parted from her beau James F. They lived in Quinter for awhile before moving to Hoisington in 1967 where they raised their five children together. Lorraine was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society. While her children were at home she served as a Girl Scout Leader and continued to support the organization for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress, making many dresses for her daughters, along with her famous Christmas stockings which she gifted to every family member and many friends. Her other gifts included gardening, canning, and baking, her family naming many favorite recipes. Above all she cherished her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Schneweis of the home; and five children, Wally Schneweis of Hoisington, Patty Francis and husband Doug of Solomon, Michelle Laurinec and husband Richard of Park City, Becky Demel and vhusband Francis of Hoisington, and Charles Schneweis and wife Krysty of Andover; three sisters, Justina Hlavaty of Olmitz, Gertrude Staab of Victoria, and Gloria Bieker of Oklahoma City; a brother-in-law, Marvin Schneider of Rush Center; 13 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Francis Maneth; and sisters, Betty Fritzler and Marguerite Schneider.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home, with family to receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Vigil and Rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.
