Rose Delores Hekele Schwartz 1926 - 2012

HOISINGTON — Rose Delores Hekele Schwartz, 85, passed away June 21 at Lexington Park Assisted Living, Topeka.  Born Aug. 30, 1926, in Odin, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Seus) Hekele.  She married William (Don) Schwartz on Oct. 25, 1948, at Odin. A lifetime resident of Odin and Hoisington, she raised five children and was the youth librarian at Hoisington City Library for 22 years.
Mrs. Schwartz was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the St. John’s Altar Society.
Survivors include three sons, Dave and Cathi Schwartz, Lenexa, Ken and Virginia Schwartz, Salina, and Dan Schwartz, Hoisington; and two daughters, Karen and Mike Zeleznak, Topeka, and Diane Schwartz and Che Wong, Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Ruth Corbett, Ellinwood; brother Joseph Hekele, Wilson; eight grandchildren, Erin Schwartz, Courtney Schwartz, Abby Schwartz, Luke and Laura Zeleznak, Matthew and Ardis Zeleznak, Karl and Courtney Schwartz, Ernest and Jacque Schwartz and Lauren Wong; and one great-grandchild, Logan Schwartz. She was preceded in death by her husband Don; five brothers, John, Martin, Frank, Arthur and Alex Hekele; and two sisters, Mary Hekele and Matilda Springer.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington with Father Francis Oroffa presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with a vigil service followed by an altar society rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Catholic Church or Midland Hospice, Topeka.
