Victoria “Vickie” Louise Herl 1947 - 2023

Victoria “Vickie” Louise Herl, 75, passed away Feb. 2, 2023, at Locust Grove Village in LaCrosse. She was born June 10, 1947, at Great Bend, to Victorinus “Vic” & Mabel (Leeper) Herl.

Vickie was a graduate of Great Bend High School and received her degree from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, where she worked as a legal secretary for several years. When Vickie returned to Great Bend she worked as the administrative assistant of the Great Bend Public Library and Central Kansas Library System for 45 years, until she retired in 2017. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society and the Great Bend Saddle Club.

Vickie loved music, singing and playing the piano, and was a voracious reader of everything from autobiographies to science fiction, with a particular fondness for a good mystery. She was a private person with a kind and gentle soul. She was generous to a fault and a loyal friend. She loved all of God’s creatures but dogs and horses the best.

Survivors include, her daughter, Kellie Werner of Hays; three brothers, Vic “Joe” Herl, Jr. and wife Rena and James “Jim” Herl, all of Great Bend and Jerry Herl of North Dakota; two sisters, Valerie Hartle and husband Alan of Florida and Vanessa McCormick and husband Mike of Ohio; two grandchildren, Blaine Werner and Tryston Burgess; and a great grandson, Cash Werner. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John Herl.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society rosary at 4 p.m. and Vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Memorials have been designated to Prince of Peace Parish or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
