spt CougarHead2C

Coming off the heels of a tough loss to then Jayhawk-leading Seward County, the Barton volleyball team needed to rebound with a win over Garden City.
It was a match the Cougars needed to remain among the top level schools in the conference. After all, Garden City was sitting at the bottom of the Jayhawk.
Barton did just what it needed to do. The Cougars hardly broke a sweat in the first two sets on the way to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 win over the Broncbusters.
The win kept Barton in fourth in the Jayhawk with a 6-3 mark. Barton is 17-5 overall. Garden City fell to 1-7 and 4-17.
Elsewhere in the conference, Colby scored a big win over Seward to take sole possession of the conference lead. Colby is now 7-1 in the Jayhawk while Seward falls to 7-2. Hutch is in third at 6-2.
The Cougars committed just nine hitting errors the entire night in defeating Garden.
Hannah Beam led the way with 10 kills followed by Averie Warehime and Nathalia Gouveia with eight and seven. Gouveia had a big night serving with nine aces.
Carolina Goncalves finished with 26 assists and Leah Fisher added nine.
Lydia Konrade led the Cougars with 16 digs and Goncalves added 12.
Barton will take a break from Jayhawk play this weekend with a trip to Hesston to play the Friends JV and Hesston.
Then it is back to the rigors of the conference with a home match against Dodge City Monday.
