HAYS (AP) — Officials at Fort Hays State University have issued their first statement on the weekend arrests of five basketball players following a weekend fight.
KWCH-TV reports that the school noted in its statement that none of the five had been charged as of Thursday afternoon. The school says the status of the players as students has not changed, and no further comment is planned while the investigation continues.
Hays police arrested four of the players early Saturday on suspicion of aggravated battery. They were released from jail on $30,000 bond. The fifth was arrested sometime later.
Police say the players were involved in a fight at a Hays bar. Officers said the fight broke up but resumed as the players walked back to the campus.
