The Kansas Community Mental Health Centers’ Organization of Medical Directors and Psychiatric Staff (KCOMPS) have selected Patrick Stang, M.D. for the 2010 VJ Reddy Memorial Award. This award is presented annually to a Kansas community mental health center medical staff member who most embodies the professional and personal attributes of D. Reddy; as exemplified by his passion for the art and practice of Psychiatry, his dedication to the life-long learning and leadership, and his unwavering commitment to compassionate patient-centered care.
KCOMPS established the VJ Reddy Award 5 years ago to memorialize their good friend and colleague Dr. VJ Reddy who served as Medical Director at Four County Mental Health Center for many years and left a legacy of outstanding service and leadership. The presentation took place at the Annual Conference for Behavioral Health on September 16, 2010.
Dr. Stang is the Medical Director at The Center for Counseling & Consultation in Great Bend. He’s been a committed advocate for mental health throughout his career and has been active on various committees throughout the state and with the Association of Community Mental Health Centers of Kansas to promote high quality Psychiatric services in Kansas.
The Award was presented by Dr. Eric Atwood, Medical Director of Family Service and Guidance Center in Topeka and Chair of KCOMPS. Of Dr. Stang, Dr. Atwood said: “He’s known for his excellent clinical skills which are delivered in a compassionate and sensitive manner. Pat has been a leader in the psychiatric community and is a past president of KCOMPS. He has promoted communication and partnership among medical providers at our centers since before the official formation of KCOMPS. Yet, despite his many accomplishments, Dr Stang is the model of humility.”
