Jim and Millie Merony

Jim and Millie Meroney of Great Bend celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 13 with a cake reception with family and friends. The couple celebrated early since they plan to celebrate their actual anniversary in Las Vegas.
James Perry Meroney II and Mildred Ruth Fritz were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1960, in Cheyenne, Wyo. Jim was born in Texas and came to Wyoming with the oilfield. He went into the navy and then attended the University of Wyoming and graduated as a petroleum engineer. Mille was raised and worked hard on the family farm in Wyoming and also worked at the Pine Bluffs Post after high school graduation. They had a family early, a son, Jimmy, and a daughter, Lorrie. With the oilfield they lived in many places such as Wyoming, Colorado, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Kansas. They also built their own log home in Glendo, Wyo. where they started and ran a water utility business and built and ran a lake storage unit facility. This was done after Jim lost his job with Mustang Drilling in Great Bend. Unfortunately, they lost their son Jimmy suddenly in May of 1992 at the age of 30. They have a daughter, Lorrie Ruble, husband Larry, and only grandson Cody. They are semi-retired since Jim still consults as an engineer and they both keep up their own home and yard. They are hard working people and are loved by family and friends.
