Seniors encouraged to take part in farmers market program

The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a federal program that will provide $30 in checks for income-qualifying seniors age 60 and older, to purchase locally grown fresh vegetables and herbs, fruits and honey.
Any Barton County senior who is interested can apply from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3 at the Great Bend Senior Center. The final date to apply will be Friday, June 13, following the 1 p.m. program at Great Bend Senior Center.
Great Bend’s Summer Street Stroll Farmers Market on Thursday evenings will participate in the Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program for 2014. The Summer Street Stroll Farmers Market opens on Thursday, June 5 and runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings through Sept. 5.
