Council discusses eco devo bylaws, commission talks facade grants

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Tuesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.  

The agenda includes  amendments to the Great Bend Economic Development Inc.’s bylaws, an interlocal agreement with Barton County for the Neighborhood Revitalization Plan, and reports from City Administrator Kendal Francis and Convention and Visitors Bureau Director/Community Coordinator Christina Hayes. 


The County Commission

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes Barton County Facade Grant applications, Sunflower Diversified Services Early Childhood Intervention Funding, and appointments to the Memorial Parks Advisory Committee and SouthWest Kansas Area Agency on Aging Board.

Following the meeting, these appointments have been scheduled (these are not live-streamed):

• 10 a.m. or following the close of the agenda meeting –  illegal salvage yard and zoning violations – Judy Goreham, environmental manager. 

• 10:30 a.m. – program update – Phil Hathcock, solid waste/facilities director. 

• 11 a.m. – Board of Health meeting.

• 1 p.m. – façade improvement – application reviews with Sue Cooper, grant coordinator, and applicants.  

• 1:30 p.m. – personnel matters and facilities – Levi Morris, county attorney.

• 2 p.m. – equipment needs – Darren Williams, county works director

• 2:30 p.m. – regular business discussion – Barry McManaman, interim county administrator, and Donna Zimmerman, county clerk.  Included will be the selection of a firm to search for county administrator candidates.
