LIBERAL – On Oct. 29, the Great Bend High School debate team traveled to Liberal for the Halloween Debate Tournament.
In Novice Division, Nathaniel Cheney and Christopher Snow finished with a 4-1 win-loss record, placing fifth. Morgan Francis and Kary Garcia also competed, finishing with a 2-3 win-loss record. “It was difficult, but I’m proud I placed,” Said Snow.
In Open Varsity Division, Michael Gieck and Mickie McNett, Marissa Hoisington and Alex Smith, and Sylvia Ofoma and Paige Vansteenburg all finished with 3-2 win-loss records. “For the fifth tournament of the season, it’s getting easier and easier every tournament,” said Vansteenburg.
The team placed third overall in sweepstakes.
“Almost everyone had a winning record and I thought they all did very well,” said GBHS debate coach Barbara Watson. “I also thought it was neat that almost everyone dressed up in Halloween costumes for the tournament. It was a fun tournament.”
