GBHS students place at Math Relays

GBHS students who attended the Fort Hays State University Math Relays on Nov. 11 are shown on the FHSU campus.

HAYS — Fifteen Great Bend High School scholars participated in the 42nd  annual Fort Hays State University Math Relays on Thursday, Nov. 11. Over 400 participants competed at this annual event.  

In the Trigonometry event the 12th grade team of Ana Alvarez, Elysse Ellis and Amy To placed 10th. The junior team of Kevin Gonzalez and Aliyah Fryberger also placed 10th. 

In Algebraic Manipulations, ninth graders Thomas Armatys and Mohamed Elzaki tied for 6th and Carson Umphres placed 9th. Sophomore Parker Dicks placed 6th. The junior team of Kevin Gonzalez, Aliyah Fryberger and Apollos Johnson placed 6th. The senior team of Elysse Ellis, Gabriella Reyes and Kennedy Kern placed 10th.

In Informal Geometry, Measurement event the 10th grade team of Paige Thexton, Parker Dicks and Apollos Johnson placed 8th, and the junior team of Kevin Gonzalez, Alondra Alvarez and Aliyah Fryberger placed 6th. 

In Applications of Algebra the 9th grade team of Carson Umphres, Thomas Armatys and Mohamed Elzaki placed 4th. In the individual portion, junior Aliyah Fryberger placed 8th, senior Elysse Ellis placed 7th, and senior Gabriella Reyes placed 8th.

In Calculations with Calculators the 10th grade team of Emilee Hall, Paige Thexton and Apollos Johnson placed 5th and the junior team of Kevin Gonzalez, Alondra Alvarez and Aliyah Fryberger placed 5th. In the individual portion, senior Kennedy Kern took 3rd place and received a bronze medal. 

The students were accompanied by GBHS math teacher Tina Hiss, sponsor.
