The Suicide Prevention Task Force of the Central Kansas Partnership is holding the “Golden Belt Run for Life” with a family and friends survivors’ ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Barton Community College. September is Suicide Prevention month and the local coalition wanted to promote Suicide Prevention in our community and hold an event that would help provide for needed community education.
The event will include a 2 mile walk, 5 K run, and a 25 mile bike race, followed by the survivors’ ceremony. Community partners who are interested in helping to sponsor the event are asked to contact Janel Rose or Mary Waite at Barton County Health Department, 620-793-1902. Proceeds will be used to sponsor community suicide prevention education.
The public is invited to participate in all activities and can register for the races online at http://heartlandtiming.com/event/2013/golden-belt-run-life/ . Interested participants may also pick up paper registration forms at Barton County Health Department or download the form from the health department website. Fees include the race, chip timing, a T-shirt and snacks.
Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age/event bracket and to the oldest and youngest competitors. Deadline for pre-registering and guaranteed t-shirt is Thursday, Sept. 19. Participants who would like to receive a t-shirt but not run, walk, or bike, may register as a Phantom Entry. Community members who would like to make a donation in memory of someone are encouraged to do so.
