Great Bend’s Joseph Trimmer has coordinated a gathering of the community to remember loved ones lost and a time of remembrance at 7 p.m. Friday at Jack Kilby Square.
‘‘A lot of people are excited and surprised that someone is doing something like this in the community. We will use our phones and glow sticks or candles to light up the Square,” he said. “This will be a great time to bring the community together and support one another.”
Trimmer’s mother and father died in the past two years, prompting him to think about how he might help others going through similar losses.
“We have always celebrated the holidays as a family and it’s not the same without my parents,” he said. “It’s always in the back of your head. I know the holidays are a hard time and if others had this outlet, it might make things easier during the holidays.”
Volunteer Laura Webster has donated bags and markers to draw names on. Ben Wooding has donated money to buy bags and glow sticks to make luminaries.
Trimmer is interested in anyone who might want to provide background music to deliver the perfect atmosphere.
