TOPEKA – How lucky can one guy get? In the case of Brian Batt, about $150,000 worth. That was the amount of the top prize the Hoisington resident scratched off on the $20 Extreme Crossword ticket he purchased.

“I bought the ticket after my niece’s high school graduation,” the 46-year-old winner told Lottery officials. “I have had good luck with the Extreme Crossword game, so I thought I would try my luck again.”

While every player hopes to get lucky, Batt’s luck could only be described as extreme. He said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he uncovered 10 words, which won him a top prize of $150,000.

Batt first asked his dad look at the ticket. “He told me he counted the same number of words I did.”  Then he took the ticket back to the store and had a clerk check it.

“The clerk looked at me, then he looked at the ticket, then he looked back at me. I asked him, ‘Is that what I think it is?’ He told me it was. The clerk told me to sign the back of the ticket right away. Then he gave me a claim form to take to the Lottery and was even nice enough to make a photocopy of the ticket for me.”

Batt is single and a lifelong resident of Hoisington. He said he will use the prize money to pay off bills and possibly buy a new Chevy truck.

The lucky $20 ticket was purchased at Main Street Express 2, located at 251 S. Main Street in Hoisington.

There are still two top prizes of $150,000 remaining in the $20 Extreme Crossword game, along with more than 100,000 other instant cash prizes.
