Injury accident in Stafford County

Stafford — Kansas Highway Patrol reports one person injured in an accident involving two vehicles at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday, at milepost 79 on U.S. 281 near St. John.
John Hunter, 60, of Larned, was driving a 2007 Peterbilt Semitrailer. He was heading southbound on U.S. 281. Another vehicle, a 1992 White Motor Corp trash truck driven by Quinn Mawhirter, 35, of St. John, was slowing down to make a left turn. The semi went to pass the vehicle driven by Mawhirter and struck the vehicle.
John Hunter was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
Quinn Mawhirter was injured and was not wearing a seat belt. The passengers in the trash truck, Terry Hollers, 58, of St. John and Jeffrey Reed, 48, of Stafford, were not injured and they were not wearing their seat belt.
Mawhirter was taken to Stafford District Hospital.
