On Tuesday at about 6:30 P.M. Sheriff’s Officers responded to the 100 block of Kiowa Road, southeast of Great Bend. Deputies had been dispatched to an alleged domestic battery situation in which a female victim was taken against her will.
An “attempt to locate” bulletin was issued while deputies investigated the case.
At about 8 P.M. a trooper from the Kansas Highway Patrol located the vehicle near the intersection of 12th and Adams in Great Bend.
When the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle the male occupant bolted from the truck and fled on foot.
The officer gave chase and was quickly joined by Great Bend Police Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies.
An area between 10th Street and 12th Street between Adams and Jefferson was surrounded and a search was conducted of the area.
The suspect identified as Dalton L. Contrerez, age 28, of Great Bend, was found hiding in a crawl space of a residence. He was taken into custody without incident.
Contrerez was arrested and booked on charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery and interference with a law enforcement officer.
He is being held in the Barton County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
The female victim was located in the area and was found to have minor injuries. The case is still under investigation by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
