ALDEN — Vintage cars collected by the late Rep. Bob Bethell will be auctioned at 10 a.m. Saturday in a sale coordinated by Carr Auction of Larned. Rep. Bethell represented the 113th District for 13 years and died in a car accident May 20, 2012 upon returning home from a legislative session.
Auctioneers Chris Froetschner and Jim Froetschner will call the auction. Items typically start with an opening bid suggestion and move from there.
Lorene Bethell, Bethell’s widow, decided to sell the antique collection of well-maintained vehicles, which are listed with mileage. Each vehicle carries a story. The 1928 Ford Model A was a favorite to run in local parades. A 1966 Navy blue Mustang was one of their daughters cars.
Some of the vintage cars are scheduled to be auctioned starting at noon. Several hundred people often attend the auctions.
In memory of Bethell, Sam Padgett (620-534-5933) will coordinate a free Alden Pride Bob Bethell Memorial Car show scheduled Aug. 24 at Alden Grade School. An ice cream social will follow the car show.
