LSH fundraiser set

LARNED — The Larned State Hospital Endowment Association, will sponsor an Everything $6 holiday fundraising jewelry and personal accessories sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. Items, with the exception of specially priced show specials, will be $6.
The sale is open to the surrounding community and will be held at the LSH Auditorium located near the center of the Larned State Hospital grounds.
Sale proceeds will benefit the LSH Endowment Association. The Association has the mission of enhancing patient care at Larned State Hospital.

Vets’ rep to visit

LARNED — The Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs mobile office will meet interested parties at the Dollar General parking lot from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday.
A service representative will assist eligible veterans and family members in obtaining benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. For information, call 785-220-8900

Candidates’ forum March 26

LARNED — A candidates’ forum for three contested races in Larned will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Larned Community Center from 7-9 p.m.  The contested races include the Mayor’s race, one City Council seat and one Board of Education seat.  The forum will be hosted by the Pawnee County Democratic Committee as a community service only.  This is a non-partisan event.  The public is encouraged to attend and hear the issues facing Larned and the surrounding area.  A reception will follow the event and the public is encouraged to visit with the candidates.  If anyone has questions they would like to have presented at the forum, you may send them to pawneecodemocrats@gmail.com .  

Teen meetings set

HOISINGTON — Psychology faculty from Fort Hays State University will sponsor four Wednesday evening classes for parents of teens at the Hoisington Community Center. Scraps Night set

LARNED — The annual Scraps Prom Night is scheduled from 3:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Scraps, 612 Broadway.
Formals for the prom dress swap are being accepted for a $50 donation that goes to the school of your choice. $5 from each tuxedo rental will also be given to the After Prom committees at the school of your choice.

Grief group to meet

GREAT BEND — There will be a series of Grief Encouragement Group meetings, facilitated by a Harden Hospice Kansas representative, starting Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at 1117 North Washington in Great Bend.
Meetings are also scheduled March 27, April 10, April 24, May 8 and May 22.
Topics covered will include the process and effects of grief, the myths and cliches of grief, surviving holidays and special days, six needs for reconciliation and mourners’ rights, and identifying coping skills, healing and saying goodbye.
