My BackYard Playground, Great Bend’s newest destination playground, is becoming a reality after months of planning, preparation and construction.
“The Great Bend Recreation Commission along with their partners: City of Great Bend, the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation and USD 428 are pleased to invite the public to the grand opening of the My BackYard Playground at the GBRC Activity Center located at 2715 18th Street,” Great Bend Recreation Commission Executive Director Diann M. Henderson said.
The grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, Dec. 11, at 11:30 a.m. with dedication of the playground by Mayor Mike Allison, GBRC Chairman Dr. Marc Huslig, Great Bend City Administrator Howard Partington, GBRC Foundation President James Newman, Kyle Krebaum President of Makinna Ann Hope Foundation, Brad Reed Superintendent of USD 428 and Henderson.
A light lunch and a cookie bar will be served and the first 100 children in attendance will receive a Hot Wheels car to commemorate the event.
An open house will occur from noon to 5 p.m.
My BackYard Playground’s theme: “Imagine Discover Play uniting children of all abilities” has been designed to provide active and meaningful experiences for children of all ages and abilities. This is an inclusive playground designed to balance physical accessibility, age and developmental appropriateness and sensory-stimulating play for children of all abilities.
