Playground equipment added at Brit Spaugh Zoo

New playground equipment is up at Great Bend’s Brit Spaugh Zoo. Although it needs some finishing touches, kids are already making use of the fort-style assembly of slides, ladders and swings.
Zoo Director Scott Gregory said staff and Boy Scouts from Troop 157 worked most of the day last Saturday to assemble the wood-frame playset and its attachments.
“It’s got 26 things to do,” he said. Children who explore the playground will find a steering wheel, a telescope and other accessories.
Other parts of Brit Spaugh Park contain playground equipment, but there wasn’t anything inside the zoo, until now. “Sometimes families spend a day at the zoo,” Gregory said. Between looking at animals and feeding fish in the lake, they now have something else to do.
The playground was completely funding by local donations. Gregory said they plan to do more landscaping and add mulch and a security fence, as well as a coat of wood stain. It’s located south of the Snake House where the Reptile Garden used to be.
