The Great Bend Police Department is investigating the mysterious death of a 15-year-old girl on July 4. The case is being investigated as a suspicious death.

Chief Dean Akings said the girl was not suffering from any long-term illness, so the cause of death was not immediately known. An autopsy will be performed today in Wichita. He declined to release the girl’s name, since she is a juvenile, but confirmed she was living in Great Bend.

According to reports, officers were dispatched to a house at 2509 Walnut Drive at 5:10 p.m. Monday, concerning an ambulance assist of a female with respiratory problems. When they arrived they learned the girl had passed away of unknown causes.
