The 35th Infantry Division Band and the Great Bend City Band will present a free patriotic concert the evening of Tuesday, July 17, at the band shell in the Barton County Courthouse Square.
The public is invited to join the bands as they pay tribute to the United States of America with military marches, patriotic music and other Americana musical selections.
The Great Bend City Band will begin the concert at 7:30 p.m. It is directed by Steven Lueth, director of instrumental activities at Barton Community College.
At 8:15 p.m the 35th Division Band will perform. The 35th Infantry Division Band is the official band of the Kansas National Guard. Its command team includes Chief Warrant Office 3 Jim Walker, Sgt. Major Diane Lewis and First Sgt. Robert Bell.
The musicians will share the stage at the end of the program with both bands playing “America the Beautiful” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Other 35th Infantry Division Band concerts

The 35th Infantry Division Band will also perform in central Kansas on the following dates:
• Thursday, July 12, 7 p.m. at Fort Larned Historic Site, 6 miles west of Larned on K-156. The Heartland Brass, a brass quintet, will also be featured.
• Friday, July 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Great Bend Public Concert. This concert will also feature the Prairie Winds Quintet and the Bullseye Brass Quintet.
• Wednesday, July 18, at 1 p.m. at the Russell Public Library, 126 E. Wisconsin. This concert will also feature the Sounds of Freedom, a small brass ensemble.
All concerts will last approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
