Perez bound over for trial
Court Gavel

Sydney Anne Perez, 20, of Topeka, entered a plea of not guilty to charges of aggravated battery and aiding and abetting aggravated battery, Friday in Barton County District Court. No date was set for her jury trial, which is expected to last four days.
Her attorney, Benjamin Fisher, waived the reading of the charges, which stem from the night of Dec. 3, 2015, when 44-year-old Christopher Michael Huges, 44, was shot at 563 NW 20 Ave. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office reported at the time that multiple shots were fired during a dispute over property.
Kirk Andre Sander, 57, Great Bend, faces the same charges as Perez and both had preliminary hearings earlier this year. Sander was also scheduled for arraignment on Friday but that hearing has been postponed at the request of his attorney, Michael Shaffer Holland II.
County Attorney Douglas Matthews is the prosecutor in both cases and District Judge Ron Svaty is presiding.
