Gerald “Dean” Nixon United States Army veteran, Sergeant Gerald “Dean” Nixon, was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on July 25, 2026, at Lyons Community Hospital, Lyons. Sgt. Nixon served from 1951-1952 in Korea. The quilt was made by Amy Schartz Mellor. Mellor and Nixon are shown in front of the quilt.

DuWayne Smart

United States Army veteran, Staff Sergeant DuWayne Smart, was awarded a Quilt of Valor by Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on July 18, 2026, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend.
