The Barton County Health Department reported the first confirmed positive case of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) in Barton County. Testing was confirmed on Monday, March 30 at 11 a.m.

Quilts of Valor presented

United States Army veteran Charles Peters was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on August 31, 2018, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Charles served from 1990 to 2011 as a truck driver in Desert Storm and in Iraqi Freedom, where he was wounded. The quilt top was made by Pat Lohrey; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor.
