Senior Companion Delores Burgardt of Great Bend and Foster Grandparent Hubert Brown of Olmitz.

Senior Corps volunteers who have served in the military or who are currently serving veterans were recognized at the November holiday luncheon and in-service meeting in Great Bend. Those honored were Senior Companion Delores Burgardt of Great Bend and Foster Grandparent Hubert Brown of Olmitz.
A special ‘Serving Veterans’ pin was awarded to each, and the following statement was read:
“On behalf of the Fort Hays State University Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Programs, it is my distinct privilege to recognize and honor you for serving as a member of the national Veteran Corps. Whether you are a veteran or are serving veterans and military families, you are now part of a family of Senior Corps volunteers and AmeriCorps members carrying out the spirit of our shared values of devotion, honor and service to our great nation. Today, we thank you for your dedication to strengthening the fabric of American society. We proudly present you with the Veteran Corps pin as a symbol of our gratitude and appreciation for all you have done and continue to do through service.”
Senior Companions and Foster Grandparents provide supportive service to adults and children needing a friend. The Programs benefit the volunteer as well as those served and contribute to the betterment of their communities.
The Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs are sponsored by Fort Hays State University and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Washington, DC. For information, call FHSU at 785-628-5809.
