Great Bend High School teacher Bill Maddy and GBHS school nurse Emily Young will receive ROSE Awards, Recognizing Outstanding Service to Education, at Monday’s USD 428 Board of Education meeting at 5 p.m. The board meets at the District Education Center, 201 South Patton Road.

Maddy and Young were nominated to receive ROSEs for working together to save a life. Maddy identified an emergency student health situation and then calmly and quickly notified Young, a Registered Nurse, who immediately administered the appropriate medication and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Also on Monday’s agenda is approval of student travel. Band Director Grant Mathews, eight sponsors and approximately 60 GBHS band students plan to travel to Orlando, Florida during the 2023-2024 spring break.

Other items on the agenda are recognition of the Perfect Attendance Bike Giveaway Program; Workers Compensation insurance; first reading of policy revisions; 2023-2024 fees and meal prices; and the 2022-2023 mileage reimbursement rate.
