Bertha Kuhn 1921 - 2012


GREAT BEND — Bertha Kuhn, 90, died April 29, 2012 at Southwind Hospice in Pratt.
Born Dec. 24, 1921 on a farm near Catharine, she was the daughter of Alois L. and Bertha (Grabbe) Leikam. She was a 1940 graduate of Girls’ Catholic High School in Hays. On Oct. 6, 1941 she married William “Bill” Kuhn at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellis. He died on Sept. 20, 1992. A resident of Great Bend since 1957, coming from Ellis, she was a homemaker. In 1957, the family moved to Great Bend from Ellis, saying the move to Great Bend was the best move they ever made. She loved spending time with her family, and playing bridge, dominoes, pitch and pinochle.
Mrs. Kuhn was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Altar Society of which she was past president, a 50 year member of Daughters of Isabella, election board, and former leader of Camp Fire.
Survivors include three sons, Bob Kuhn and his wife Barb, Timber Lake, S.D., Jim Kuhn and Tony Kuhn and his wife Pam, all of Great Bend; two daughters, Judith “Judy” Krebaum and her husband Jim, Great Bend; and Susan Rouse and her husband Herb, Broken Arrow, Okla., daughter-in-law, Norma Kuhn, Great Bend; 16 grandchildren, Curtis Kuhn, Kathey Mitchell, Keith Kuhn, Kyle Krebaum, and Amy Crosby, all of Great Bend; Karen Rugan, Ellinwood; Kevin Krebaum, Salina; Greg Kuhn, Olathe; Brenda Kuhn, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Rob Kuhn, Timber Lake, S.D.; Annette Wine, Phoenix, Ariz.; Dawnell Kuhn, Jacksonville, Fla.; Steven Honomichl, Broken Arrow, Okla.; Adam Honomichl, Tulsa, Okla.; Christy Rouse, Miami, Okla.; and Donna Rouse, Owasso, Okla.; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two sons, William D. “Bill” Kuhn and infant Joseph Kuhn; a daughter, infant Mary Kuhn; two brothers, Aloysius W. Leikam and Herman J. Leikam; a grandson, Kent Kuhn; and two great-grandchildren, Kelly Kuhn and Makinna Ann Krebaum.
Altar Society Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Vigil Service with Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Celebrant Father Reginald A. Urban. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
