GREAT BEND — Charles E. “Chuck” Smith, 56, died March 29, 2012 at his home in Great Bend.
He was born July 6, 1955 at Salina, the son of Don Raymond and Eleanor M. (Martin) Smith.
He was a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Journalism. He married Nona Morgan August 9, 1986 at Great Bend. He was City Editor for The Great Bend Tribune for 34 years. Mr. Smith was a Great Bend resident since 1966 coming from Salina. He was a member of Foundry Methodist Church, Great Bend.
Survivors include his mother, Eleanor M. Smith, Great Bend; two sons, Rev. Andrew Jackson Whitaker Smith and his wife The Reverend Morgan Whitaker Smith, McLouth; Zachary Raymond Smith and his life partner Stacy Nowlin, Great Bend; a daughter, Jennifer Nicole Apel and her husband Gary, Peculiar, Mo.; a sister, Joyce Schartz, Salina; and three grandchildren, Dalton Apel, Gavin Apel and Benjamin Whitaker Smith.
A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday, April 2 at Foundry Methodist Church in Great Bend with The Reverend Dr. Kevin Baxter officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m., Sunday, April 1 at Bryant Funeral Home.
A memorial fund has been established for the Foundry Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
