LEAWOOD — Gertrude M. Dietz, 94, died peacefully on April 22 after a short illness. She was in the company of her family and the comfort of the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Barton County, she was the daughter of Peter and Amelia (Steinert) Nuss. On July 30, 1936, she married Arthur A. Dietz in Milberger. Together they had two children. He died on Oct. 15, 1982. A resident  of Leawood since 1993, coming from Great Bend, she loved life and was an avid bridge player her entire life. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always eager to be around them.
Mrs. Dietz was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend throughout her life.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Dietz and his wife Linnie of Wichita; a daughter, Kay Moffat and her husband Dr. Robert of Fairway; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, L. Ray Nuss; and one sister, Martha Karst.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later time at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday, all at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, Bethany Lutheran, Prairie Village or Kansas City Hospice House, all in care of the funeral home.
