Herman Louis "Lou" Niedens 1934 - 2013

KINGSTON, Okla. — Herman Louis “Lou” Niedens, 79, passed away May 23 at the hospital in Durant, Okla. Born Jan. 11, 1934, in Russell County, he was the son of Rudolph and Nathalia “Dollie” Dumler Niedens. Lou was raised in Russell County and attended Hoisington High School. He later graduated from Concordia Lutheran College in Seward, Neb. On Dec. 29, 1990, he married Linda Darlene Bessell (Hoover) in Moore, Okla.
Lou joined the United States Marine Corps and served from Feb. 16. 1954, to Dec. 21, 1956. He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, coaching and playing baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hoover of Kingston, Okla.; four children, Bret Niedens of Camarillo, Calif., Vicki Nowaczyk of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rick Niedens of California, and Gail Niedens of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert Niedens and wife Pat of Park City, and Don Niedens and wife Dorothy of Great Bend; a sister, Bernice Deines of Hoisington; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents;  two brothers, Paul and Gale Niedens; and one brother-in-law, Robert Deines.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Durant, Okla., with Pastor Craig Scavo officiating. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church Youth College Fund (580) 924-9907 or the Wounded Warrior Project. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
