James "Jim" W. Collins 1931 - 2016

ELLINWOOD — James “Jim” W. Collins, 85, passed away at Hays Medical Center on Dec. 20, 2016. Born on May 6, 1931, in Watchorn, Okla., he was the son of Luther and Gertrude (Muselak) Collins. He was a longtime Ellinwood area resident graduating from Ellinwood High School in 1949. He worked as an Independent oil and gas producer and was owner/operator of James W. Collins Oil Operations.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Long (Coy), of Ellinwood; two sons, Jerry Collins (Deborah), of Edmond, Okla., and Terry Collins (Dori), of Ellinwood; three sisters, Trudy Williams of Topeka, Margaret Collins of Hutchinson, and Patsy Moyer of Demming, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann Collins; and brother, C. Jack Collins.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26 at Cavalry Baptist Church in Ellinwood with Pastor Jason Winget officiating. Burial will follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to Cavalry Baptist Church or Woodhaven Care Center in care of the funeral home.
