HOISINGTON — Martin “Marty” C. Smith, 58, passed away Sunday May 19, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. Born October 7, 1954 in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Robert E. and Evelyn (Collins) Smith. On Jan. 16, 1998 he married Karen King in Springfield, Mo. Marty moved to Hoisington in 2008 coming from Lovington, New Mexico. He served his country in the United States Army and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator until he was disabled.
He was a member of First Street Church of God in Hoisington. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and his dogs Harley, Bandit and Roxy.
Survivors include his wife Karen Smith of the home; his father, Robert E. Smith of Lebanon, Mo.; three sons, Matthew Corey Smith and wife Kenzi of Lovington, N.M., Jason M. King of Great Bend, and Dustin M. Rhodes of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Natalie N. Garcia and husband Albert of College Station, Texas; one sister, Janice F. Green and husband David of Lovington, N.M.; five grandchildren, Arianna, Albert Jr., Nicholas, Gaige, and Zoey. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with the Reverend Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will follow at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, with family present from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
