HOISINGTON — Mary E Brown died Friday, July 7, 2017 in her sunlit room at County Place Senior Living. She was born in Hoisington on June 5, 1924 the daughter of William M. and Agnes A. Johnston Nagle.
On Oct. 15, 1947 Mary and Earl (Brownie) were married in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Church which was established by Mary’s grandparents, the Church in which she worshiped her entire life, the Church to which she was so long and so happily devoted.
Mary was an accomplished seamstress, particularly skilled in alterations. She gladly worked on any project family and friends brought her way. Mary was a member of the St. John’s Altar Society. She stood among the first volunteers at the Hoisington Community Food Bank. For years she delivered Meals on Wheels, with Brownie until he died in 1996 and solo many years after.
Preceding Mary in death are her parents, her husband Brownie, her beloved daughter Jean, her daughter-in-law MaryAnn, her son-in-law Jim, and her brothers Jack and Bernard.
Surviving are her children John of Wichita, Mary Jane of Overland Park, Pat of Manhattan, Sally of Hoisington, and Mike (Debbie) of Urbandale, Iowa. Also surviving are her brother Bill Nagle and his wife Carolyn of Fort Collins, Colo., grandchildren Angela, Diann, Ethan, Ellie, Jeff, Andy and Elise and great-grandchildren Malik, Caeden, Ian, Zoe, Logan and Landon.
A Vigil celebration of Mary’s life and Rosary will be held 7 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m, today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m, Monday, all at the funeral home.
