Ronald “Ron” DeHaan

PAWNEE ROCK — Ronald “Ron” DeHaan, 75, passed away March 30, 2021, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. He was born March 16, 1946, at Waukegan, Ill., to Charles and Mildred (Trott) DeHaan. He was raised and later adopted by John and Evelyn Drew of Radium after the untimely death of his birth parents. He married Shannon Sue Pound on Dec. 19, 1981 at Russell.  

A lifetime area resident, Ron graduated from Radium High School in 1964. He was a supervisor in the oilfield and retired from Great Bend Health & Rehab as the Environmental Director. He enjoyed gardening, canning, traveling and hunting. He loved pheasant season, harvest time and going to Mom’s Bar & Grill in Seward but especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam war.  

Survivors include, his wife, Shannon DeHaan of the home; two sons, Shawn DeHaan and wife Elisha of Spearman, Texas, and Ryan DeHaan and wife Shelly Peacock of Great Bend; three brothers, Steven DeHaan and wife Sherry of Hays, John Drew of rural Stafford county, and Todd Drew of Wichita; two sisters, Lynne Hurst of Boulder, Colo., and Diana Pinar of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister in law, Donna Williams and husband R.C. of Great Bend; and six grandchildren, Connor DeHaan, Colton DeHaan, Jericho Riddle, Jaron Riddle, Reese Bullard and Keldon Bullard. He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Charles and Mildred DeHaan; his adoptive parents, John and Evelyn Drew; a son, Terry Riddle; a daughter, Nicole DeHaan; and a sister, Sharon Silversmith. 

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Stafford, with Military Rites conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Memorials have been designated to the Grandchildren’s Scholarship Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at
