HUTCHINSON – It wasn’t the head-turning outing of the previous week. But it was still pretty good.
After scorching the Salina Municipal Golf Course for a 9-under par to win the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational, the Barton men’s golf team was back on the course for the Fall Midwest Invitational in Hutchinson
This time Barton finished as runner-up to Dodge City in the event with Dodge winning by 12 strokes. The event hosted by Sterling College was played at Carey Park.
Dodge City led by four strokes after the first day then shot a 3-over to pull away for the 12 stroke win. The Conquistadors shot 291-283—574. Barton finished 295-291—586.
No other team broke 600.
Barton’s Natchapol Srinoon finished tied for second in the individual medalist race. After shooting a 1-under 69 to open play Monday he was tied for the lead. He followed with a 72 Tuesday but that wasn’t good enough to hold on. Dodge City’s Cole Christian shot 70-68—138 to win the event by three strokes.
Both Srinoon and Dodge’s Kantapong Chaisiriwichian shot 69-72—141 for a tie for second. Barton’s Jakkapat Horsangchai shot 71-73—144 to tie for fourth overall.
After those two there was an 8-stroke drop off for the Cougars. Sophomore Blake Huxman shot 79-73—152 to finish tied for 15th.
Freshman Seokhunh Kang struggled the opening day with an 81 but came back to shoot a 73 the second day for a total of 154. That put him alone in 20th place.
Rounding out the Barton team total was Ellinwood sophomore Jared Oelke. Oelke posted a good round Monday for Barton with his 6-over 76 but has his struggles the following day with an 83 for a 159.
Playing as individuals, Andrew Iverson shot 84-71—155 and Jestin Jackson shot 82-84—166.
The Cougars will have one more event before the fall season comes to an end. Barton will host the Barton Invitational at StoneRidge Golf Club Monday. The event will be a 1-day, 36-hole tournament.
