DODGE CITY — Barton County Cougar pitcher Elijah Lang threw eight innings to spark the Great Bend Bat Cats past the Dodge City A's 9-1 in Saturday's summer baseball opener. Minneola's Lang struck out eight batters and yielded three hits in a 102-pitch outing.
Bat Cats Chase Kessler, Decario Delancy and Jaxon Bunkers each drove home two runs. The Bat Cats scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and seventh innings.
Dylan Sarna scored on Andrugh Yee's single. George McCarroll scored on an error. Bunkers drilled a fourth-inning homer. McCarroll singled home Kessler for a 4-0 lead.
Peanut Brazzle's single scored Delancy to spark a 3-run eighth. Kessler's single scored Yee and Bunkers for a 7-1 lead.
Sarna scored on Delancy's groundout in a 2-run ninth. Bunkers singled home Yee for a 9-1 final.
The Bat Cats play at the Kansas Cannons Tuesday and Wedmesday.
