It wasn’t the weekend the Barton women’s soccer team was hoping for. The Cougars traveled to Oklahoma to take on a pair of Sooner State foes at the Rose State Classic in Midwest City.

Barton lost to both games, falling to a pair of quality teams. Seminole State beat the Cougars on Saturday while Rose State beat them on Sunday.

The losses drop the Cougars to 1-2 on the season.

In the setback to Rose State on Sunday, Barton was tied with 30 minutes to play before the Raiders scored four times in the final 30 minutes for a 5-1 win.

Saturday Barton fell by a 4-2 score to Seminole State.

Rose State, who has tied the No. 1 team in the nation this year, took a 1-0 lead in the match midway through the first half and held that lead at halftime.

In the second half, Barton evened the match at 1-all when Rayssa Neres scored her third goal of the season. The freshman from Brazil scored on a through ball from Tressa Becker with 30 minutes left in the contest.

It didn’t take long for Rose State to answer. The Raiders scored just seven minutes later and kept scoring with four goals over a 20-minute span.

Rose State in now 3-1-1 on the year with the tie against No. 1 Tyler and the only loss coming to No. 12 Butler.

In the loss to Seminole State, nearly all the scoring took place in a busy first half.

Barton went up 1-0 just more than one minute into the contest when Larissa Fagundes scored on an assist from Laura Maria.

That lead lasted all of 40 seconds before the Trojans evened it at 1-all. One minute later Seminole State had a 2-1 lead and the offensive explosion for the Trojans was on.

By halftime, Seminole State had a 4-1 lead on the Cougars. Barton gave itself from hope when Maria scored on an assist from Fagundes to cut the lead to 4-2 early in the second half.

That would be the end of the scoring as the Cougars suffered their first loss of the season. The win improved Seminole State to a perfect 4-0. The Trojans also won over Western Texas on Sunday to stay unbeaten on the season.

Barton will be back on the pitch Wednesday when Garden City comes to Great Bend for a 2 pm kickoff. The contest will be the first Jayhawk West match of the season. Garden City is winless on the year at 0-2.
